steering committee working on a Lewis County Chamber of Commerce met last week and
hammered out some details on getting the project underway.
Committee Chair Kenny Clark and other members of the committee heard from
Melony Furby (at right with Kenny Clark), Director of the Maysville-Mason County Area
Chamber of Commerce on the workings of and how to establish a Chamber.
Committee members discussed membership fees, scheduled a get-together for
business people and individuals, and discussed the first steps in forming a Chamber.
Some of the members of the committee had learned that a Chamber of Commerce had
been organized in Lewis County in the past and suggested researching to find out if a
charter is presently on file with the state. |
If so, the next step will be to decide if this group
wants to pick up where the last Chamber left off or start anew. The
committee decided on annual membership dues.
Individuals may become a member of the Lewis County Chamber of Commerce for a
$35 annual commitment. Businesses with fewer than five employees would pay $50 a year;
businesses employing more persons would pay on an incremental scale up to $200 for those
employing more than 50.
A flat fee of $100 was set for professional firms and agencies, while banks
will pay depending on the deposits with the bank.
The steering committee will next meet at 5:00 p.m. on October 10 at the
Vanceburg City Building.
An open meeting for anyone interested in joining the Chamber is planned for
October 24. A location has not yet been established, but will be well publicized in
advance. |
